6th Grade Language Arts
Conference Time: 2:15-3:00
- Our Fall Festival is just around the corner! Make plans to attend on Friday, October 14. I will be working in the golf booth from 4:45-6:00 P.M. and I'd love to see you there! Also each homeroom has a basket to fill for a raffle. Please check with your room parent to see how you can help if you haven't already.
- Our change drive for our Fall Festival starts this week, on October 3. Please send any spare change/coins! The class in each grade level that collects $100 will get a popsicle party!
- If you haven't sent in $7.98 for SCOPE Magazine from Scholastic, please do so as soon as possible. We are very close to receiving money from everyone so that we can complete our order and start using this phenomenal resource in the classroom.
Language Arts: (Week of October 3 - 7, 2016)
We have finished reading The Cay and there will be a test on Wednesday. In Language Arts we will shift our focus from fiction to nonfiction starting Monday, the 3rd. We'll be reading several news articles and other nonfiction materials over the next few weeks. Students have taken home their Writing Portfolios and should be typing their final copy of the personal narrative they've chosen. The typed paper and cover sheet will be due Friday, October 7. Students have a guide sheet for typing as well as a rubric to help them remember the most important things needed in the content of their paper. I am looking forward to reading what everyone has written!
HOMEWORK: Each child should be reading on their own or with a family member every night. Research tells us this benefits children in numerous ways...confidence, writing, inferencing, problem-solving, comprehension, and critical thinking. Please encourage your child to read.
Monday: read 15-30 minutes at home in a book of your choice
Tuesday: make sure you are getting that personal narrative typed this week
Wednesday: read 15-30 minutes at home in a book of your choice
Thursday: personal narratives are due tomorrow...make sure you have yours typed, printed, and have included a cover page, according to the guidelines
